I don't. I talk quantum because everyone else talks quantum. And I don't believe the only alternative to talking quantum is to write it off as "magic." For that matter, I don't believe the mind is "some sort of mystical essence." I do believe it's separate from the body, but I don't think there's anything "mystical" about it.
Basically, I think there is more to the universe than we've discovered yet, but I believe it's all discoverable. I don't accept the dichotomy that puts current scientific thinking in the "reality" box and everything else in the "fantasy" box. So no, "because it's magic" would never be sufficient.
And this is derailing the thread, and I'm sorry about that. Would you like to continue else-thread or in PM? _________________ Zander

Age Research:
Well, I've been helping examine the Age of Green Flower (our name for it) with Horatio of the GoA, Ian A. Pertwee, and Sophia "Pavitra" Luden. My work however pales in compairison to what they have done.
I've also been examining and working to restore a set of interlinked Ages that I call 1,2,3, and 4. They have names... I am just not yet ready to share more about them...
Technological Research:
I have made some progress with a few gadgets that I am more than willing to share the research on.
The first is a generator that runs using the steamer type pellets, and some algae water from Dn'i. The Pellet makes steam, which turn turbines... and I'll save the rest of the technical mubo jumbo. The offical name for the device is the MD S type generator Mark I. MD standing for Manifest Destiny and Co. my organization. Keep in mind that these generators are not the most reliable yet, if you are interested in improving them either by providing pellet data or improving the design then you will be aknowleged when Mark II is released.
The second was created under the Pellucidar Project, it is called the GW Radio (If you can figure out what the GW stands for I will be very impressed). The radios can recieve transmissions from within the Cavern as well as from the Surface (Just Eddy County) No matter what Age you bring them too. They can also be set to communicate with each other so if you and a friend both have one of our radios you can commincate vocally with your friend. My fiance and I both have one and they do work rather well in keeping in touch with loved ones.
And off shoot of the Pellucidar Project is the possible creation of IIPs (Interactive Imager Projections) with OHB for use in the City. This in merely in the concept stage however.
The last is the EPDs, Er'cana Pellet Demolitions. They are carefully constructed using the pellets that explode and Algae water to be used as demolitions in the City or in Ages.
This technology is open to all explorers as long as the following rules are kept, so in no particular order.
1. Should you obtain some of our technology you will not attempt to pass it off as your own. we would also prefer that you not remove any lables we have on our products.
2. This technology is not for sale on the Surface. If you attempt to do so you will be caught and the technology impounded. If you believe the technology "must be shared for the good of us all!", don't worry it will when humanity is ready for it. And yes we will decide that, if that makes us elitist, don't use our tech.
Also note all our tech is free, but we will accept monetary donations, donations in the form tech such as old KIs, Firemarbles (as long as they belong to you), and other objects. We also accept knowledge.
Sorry about all the talking the other reseach sound really fun. I wonder if Mr. Barnes, Whilyam and Jishin As well as Kaeleri and Zander should team up because they have similar goals (Although Whilyam and Mr. Barnes have teamed up already). I am very interested in anyones Pellet Reaserch to further improve my generators and EPDs if anyone would care to contribute.
Also Ms. Rhodes I would like to speak to you about the Writers of Illumination a friend of mine has recently come across a slightly similar group and I wonder if they could be connected in some way...
Thank you again for your time... _________________ Thelonius "Prof" Higginsbottom

I've been working mostly on Imager tech, or late.. Got some busted up Imagers working in an old sealed up Pub (calling it my Pub Office, its being used for more social purposes currently, though. I quite prefer this usage, as well.)
I've been experimenting with firemarble power-sources, too. I've rigged up some batteries, but, they are HIGHLY experimental, at this stage.
Mostly working on restoration, though I'm hoping to Write my first Age, at some point.
Found a D'ni workshop, appears to be a seperate Age, as I could link there from a location in D'ni, helped a *lot* with my work on Imagers.
I've been wanting to head down to the City Proper, for a while, curious as to what else is around.
Really want to take a look at any other Imager-type devices the D'ni have, if anyone knows about any, please let me know. |

You might want to check out the ticker in Kirel. (I love those things myself.) I think that uses some type of Imager-like tech. It's of D'ni construction, but the message on it was clearly by the DRC, so it's probable they can be programmed to display any message. I seem to recall hearing about the DRC setting more of those up by the Library and in the Courtyard on A'egura but they lost funding before they could. So there's probably more of them down in the cavern. Somewhere. |

Interesting, shall have to take a look.
Thanks for that info, re: Imagers that got my research started, by the by. Was most interesting.
Thanks again. |

I've been stuck up on the surface for a while (transit issues, but I hope to get back down soon).
My primary area of investigation has been of an anthropological nature: I've been examining aspects of D'Ni culture for some time, and come up with a few interesting tidbits.
First of all (and I'm certain that many others have noticed this as well), the D'Ni as a while have a fascination with mathematics and calculations. A great number of the machines that I've encountered feature elaborate combination lock-style mechanisms, and after reading over some earlier notes, there appears to be a similar fixation with astronomy and stellar phenomena.
In addition, I've noticed that many of the devices left behind on the various Ages I've investigated seem to be oriented towards direction-finding, or plotting a course.
This apparent dedication to geometry and astronomy makes me wonder if the D'Ni weren't possibly space-faring at some point? Could they have somehow lost the ability?*
Which brings me to my final theory:
We've all speculated about the reasons the Maintainer's Markers were placed in a given location. I submit this conclusion: the Maintainer's Marks were not simply a means to ensure that the Age was properly inspected, but a manner of orienting oneself relative to other stellar bodies.**
*Upon reflection, this is an entirely plausible conclusion; with the discovery and use of the Art, what need is there for space travel? I'll add that to my notes for my next outbound expedition...
** Actually, this brings me to yet another theory, but I won't take your time with it here. I'll leave it for another day and another thread. |

I have some things to say about that, but as it's off-topic for this thread I've taken the discussion here. _________________ How lucky we are to live in this time: the first moment in human history when we are, in fact, visiting other worlds. |
